To apply as a Self-Employed Immigrant, an applicant must meet the definition of the Self-Employed immigrant class, then will be assessed against five selection factors. The pass mark is 35 points. The five factors are as follows;

Factor 1 - Business Experience (maximum 35 points)
Business experience must have been obtained within the period beginning five years before the date of appliation.
  More than 2 year but less than 3 years  20  
  More than 3 years but less than 4 years  25  
  More than 4 years but less than 5 years 30  
  5 or more years 35

Factor 2 - Age (maximum 10 points)
You can get points for your age at the time your application is received.

Factor 3 - Education (maximum 25 points)
You can get points for your educational credentials AND the number of years you spent in full-time study. Full-time study means at least 15 hours of instruction per week during the academic year.

Obtained a one-year post-secondary educational credential and completed at least 12 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies 12

Obtained a three-year post-secondary educational credential and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies 22

Obtained a master's or Ph.D. and completed at least 17 years of full-time education or full-time equivalent studies 25

You can get points based on your ability to read, write, listen to and speak English and French.

Factor 5 - Adaptability (maximum 6 points)
You can get a maximum of 6 points based on any combination of the elements listed below:
1. Accompanying Spouse/Common-Law Partner's Education
A one or two-year post-secondary educational credential and completed at least 13 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies 3
A three-year post-secondary educational credential and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies 4
A three-year university credential and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies 4
A master's or Ph.D. and completed at least 17 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies

2. Previous Study in Canada
Principal applicant or spouse / common-law partner has completed at least two years of post-secondary education in Canada since the age of 18.

3. Previous Work in Canada
Principal applicant or spouse / common-law partner has worked full-time in Canada for at least one year. 5

4. Family in Canada
Principal applicant or spouse / common-law partner has family in Canada (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, niece, nephew, child or grandchild who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada.)
